There are three Workshop Session times scheduled in addition to the General Sessions and other activities; Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon, and Friday afternoon. Some workshops are only available during one or two Workshop Session times, as noted in the descriptions. Workshops are subject to change. We will contact you if there is a change in a workshop that you are registered for.
Please note that Workshop #506 was changed on January 10, 2013.
# 501: The Inner Preacher
Presenter: The Reverend Josh Acton
"…be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Romans 12:2
So many of us have found a new life in Christ, but we continue to listen passively to self-defeating thoughts, never experiencing the fullness of being transformed by the renewal of our minds. Do you have a new life and an "old head"? Would you like to know how the promises of the Lord can be realized? Would you like to break the hold that anxiety, worry, oppression and/or depression have on your thought life? Come and learn practical principles that will enable you to "take every thought captive to Christ”.
#502: Caring for the Brokenhearted - (Only available during Workshop Sessions I and III. )
Presenter: Donna Authers
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:18
What do we do when we have the privilege of walking alongside someone on his or her journey into healing? Individuals who seek healing are often heart-sick due to one or more losses in life. How can we most effectively help someone experience “good grief”? Come and explore the many effects of loss – including the impact loss can have on one’s faith.
#503: The Ultimate Healing: Facing the Fear of Death - (Only available during Workshop Session II. )
Presenter: Donna Authers
"God did not give us a spirit of fear." 2 Timothy 1:7
In this workshop, Donna Authers, author of A Sacred Walk: Dispelling the Fear of Death and Caring for the Dying, will list and define the seven distinct fears most commonly experienced by those facing a life-threatening illness – their own or that of a loved one. Using care giving techniques and the power of prayer, she will suggest ways to discern and dispel each fear so that peace reigns.
#504: Receiving God's Healing: Body, Mind and Spirit
Presenters: The Reverend Hugh and Khara Bromiley
"Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit." I Corinthians 6:19
This workshop will help participants to be more receptive to the healing love and power of God. How might we heighten our receptivity to God's healing touch? What do we need to avoid? How do we remove any blocks to healing within ourselves or others? Come and learn the power of positive praying. A guided meditation will be offered.
#505: Healing Gardens and Healing Prayer: The Blending of Soil and Soul
Presenter: The Reverend John Rice
"He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters." Psalm 23:2
Participants attending this workshop will hear about the healing effects of nature and gardening as documented in a number of scientific studies. Medical outcomes as measured in these studies parallel a number of the medical outcomes of healing prayer. The message is clear: God is present in healing gardens as well as in healing prayer, bringing reduction in stress and increase in peace. The blending of soil and soul is good for our health! The workshop will include discussion of the various elements of a healing garden, from seasonal color to texture and fragrance.
#506: Transforming Leadership
Presenter: Barbara Lachance
"Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Leaders are often the last to seek healing. Compassion can sometimes be unsanctified and lead us into stressful situations where there seems to be no return. In this workshop you will understand how stress affects us, learn statistics of burnout and causes, and learn steps to prevent burnout.
#507: Ministering Healing in the Truth of God
Presenter: The Reverend Canon D.A.P. Smith
"I am the way, the truth and the life." John l4:16
This workshop will focus on how we might best prepare ourselves to serve our Lord in His healing work in this world. How can I best live my life to be used by God? How can I best relate to others that they may be touched by Christ? How can I best recognize in the world what is meaningful and true? Come and consider how you might be further transformed for our Lord’s service.
#508: The Healing Journey into our True Identity - (Only available during Workshop Session I. )
Presenter: Linda Strickland
"Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him." Colossians 3:3-10
How we view ourselves and live our lives is shaped by our families, our environment and our experiences. As Christians we should know that our true identity is in God. However, when the struggles of life happen, like Adam and Eve, we can become separated from God and as a result create a false self to survive. This workshop will cover aspects of the true self (God created) and the false self (self-created) through Linda’s personal testimony of healing and freedom.
#509: The Power of the Family Blessing - (Only available during Workshop Session II. )
Presenter: Linda Strickland
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17
We are all born with a burning question inside of us: “Am I ok?” Our parents are the logical people to answer that question, telling us who we are by blessing us with their love and approval. A family blessing provides us with a sense of personal acceptance, and also plays an important part in protecting and even freeing us to develop intimate relationships with others. However, missing out on the family blessing can have tremendously adverse effects on us. When we don’t receive our parent’s approval, we move into life searching for it, usually in all the wrong places. This workshop will unpack the elements of the blessing as well as demonstrate how the healing power of Jesus Christ can heal the wounds of not receiving affirmation and blessing within the family.
#510: A Workshop for OSL Conveners: Growing and Managing Your OSL Chapter -
(Only available during Workshop Session III. )
Presenters: Barbara and Mike McBride
"For where two or more are gathered in my name, I am there in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20
This workshop will be part lecture and part discussion. The lecture portion will cover topics including:
1. Communications: website, email, Facebook, mailings etc.
2. Chapter meetings
3. Chapter activities/missions
